Some Scottsdale residents live closer to the Phoenix Zoo than some Phoenix residents. Just going by city population statistics, yes Scottsdale probably is one of the largest cities without a zoo, but it would be hard to justify a new zoo about ten miles from the Phoenix Zoo. Especially when there is already a second zoo just west of Phoenix.

Austin has two zoos already, but neither one is very good from what I can tell on the internet. Would be nice if they could build a proper one.

Carlsbad is so close to the two San Diego parks that I cannot imagine anyone trying to open something there. I mean would anyone other than ZooChat geeks actually visit a zoo within 30 miles of the mega San Diego Zoo? On second thought, if it was much more affordable and easier to navigate (smaller) there might be a market for it for families with small children.

Fort Lauderdale is intriguing, although the excellent Palm Beach Zoo is not that far away.

Memphis does have a zoo and it's one of the few in the US that has giant pandas.

Memphis is a 4 hour drive from Huntsville. North Alabama really needs a proper zoo, though I don't want it to distract from the good thing the Birmingham Zoo has going on now.

Metro Richmond Zoo is a great zoo it big lots of animals they even have orangutans and lots more rare ones 2 but lot of not so rare ones 2 here their map it good enough 2 be a aza zoo but it not it owned buy a husband and wife Zoo Map :: Metro Richmond Zoo worth the trip 2 go see it a good zoo it worth going 2 easy i think it better then the Virginia zoo if not their close bigger then the Virginia zoo and has lots more land 2 make it bigger

I would enjoy having a zoo in Northwest Arkansas, Fayetteville area. There were rumors of one a few years back, but all information has since dried up. The local Wild Wilderness Safari always depresses me.

Of course I am. We all know that Palm Beach Zoo is not that far away, but Ft. Lauderdale really needs a zoo.

Are you ungulate nerd, or did you follow his format for his fantasy zoos? Read ungulate nerd's thread about the zoo he wants to start so you can know that one cannot simply just build a zoo.

I'm not ungulate nerd; I'm deanmo19. I just followed his format for his fantasy zoos. Plus everyone else should build a zoo, not me.

Fort Lauderdale is 30-40 miles away from Zoo Miami one of the biggest zoos in the country. I doubt there is a market for another zoo there.

I know, but I'm sure that they should probably demolish aging houses and abandoned stores to make enough space for a zoo in Ft. Lauderdale in the future.

So you want to kick people out of their homes because the nearest zoo to you is 35 miles away and you deem that too far?

If the nearest zoo is 100 miles away, and you live in a heavily populated area, then you can make a case for a new zoo. Otherwise, that's why we have the game ZooTycoon.

No, I was just kidding!

there are a 2 large parks in Ft. Lauderdale that are owned by the city and once you get experiance with animals and zoos, you can write a letter and possibly negotiate with the city, now here are the 2 parks that i found for your facility

Holiday Park - 94 acres

Mills Pond Park - 153 acres

The Fort Lauderdale area already tried to have a zoo - it lasted a few years in Markham Park.

Mills Pond Park seems perfect enough to open a zoo there.
