Me! I thought that I'd out myself. :D

Let's see if my wife has anything planned for us today.

Happy Birthday Nanoboy!
Hope the wife does something exciting... :)

Hi folks. Thanks for all the birthday wishes! :D

That was really nice of you, and I really appreciated them. :D

My wife took me to a nice Chinese restaurant for lunch, and then I came home to a cake that she secretly made an evening when I worked late. (See attached pics.) All in all, it was a great day. :D

Thanks again for the kind wishes folks.

I was waiting to see how many replies you would get to a self-induced birthday thread.

Are the animals made of marzipan?

That does look like a pretty cool cake! :)

Haha. I put my popularity at about a 4/10. :D

I think that the animals were bought online, and are made from icing sugar. The leaves etc were made from "royal icing" (whatever that is), but not marzipan.

Brum, I am glad that you like the cake. It was a red velvet cake with white-chocolate icing. Yum! Of course, 30 years ago I would have been slightly more excited with the animal theme, but I was quite impressed that she did the icing on her own. She wanted to write "Melbourne Zoo" or "Australia Zoo" or something like that on the side, but like those funny placards you see at protest marches, she ran out of space and simply had to make do with "zoo". :D :D

you should be. Honestly, it looks very professional in the photos (like a cake bought from a speciality cake shop).

This is what my sister is going to make for my next birthday.

:p

nanoboy- Your birthday celebration didn't include a zoo visit? Shame on you!:p Seriously though, happy birthday!

Thanks for the birthday wishes! I went to the zoo yesterday instead. :D

Hix, that will be an awesome cake. But why eat a cake when you can eat an actual snake in Asia? :(

Chlidonias, I will pass on the compliment. It was only her second attempt at icing a cake.

I don't need to go to Asia - I have 14 snakes in the spare bedroom. But if my sister makes this cake, then i can have my snake and eat it too!
