Plans For 2013?

My plans for 2013:

(revisits)
- Zoo Zurich, Switzerland
- Zoo Basel, Switzerland (new exhibits for apes)
- Knies Kinderzoo Rapperswil, Switzerland (camel and elephant riding - my kids love it)
- Papillorama Kerzers, Switzerland
- Alpenzoo Innsbruck, Austria
- Tiergarten Schönbrunn Vienna, Austria
- Haus des Meeres Vienna, Austria
- Wilhelma Stuttgart, Germany
- Tierpark Hagenbeck with Tropenaquarium Hamburg, Germany
- Zoo and Botanical Garden Mulhouse, France
- Zoo Singapore, Singapore
- Jurong Bird Park, Singapore
- Night Safari, Singapore

(new)
- River Safari Singapore, Singapore (hope there is no delay with the opening)
- SEA Aquarium Singapore, Singapore

There will be some more, but that depends where we will spend our holidays in summer and autumn/fall.

As I'll be in London next week I plan to revisit London Zoo (last visit April 2008) and make a first visit to Whipsnade. The following week and probably most of February I'll be back in Scotland and plan to revisit Edinburgh Zoo (last visit June 2011) and the Highland Wildlife Park (was there a couple of times last year but hoping for some snow this time) and make a first visit to the Five Sisters Zoo.

No idea about the rest of the year as it will depend on which country I end up working in, although I'll probably end up back in the Middle East somewhere. :(

My plans for 2013 are:

- Visit the local wildlife park as much as I can, I'm lucky cos I live near it :D
- Get some more good animal photos (captive and wild)
- Save up to move to Sydney to study at Taronga Zoo
- Do as many wildlife/conservation projects as I can

A brief update: Things seem to have kicked off earlier than expected - I've just booked a weekend in Istanbul at the end of June. Unfortunately I doubt I'll be able to leave the airport during transit in Zurich.

2013 will be a big year for me. I'm combining two obsessions in May visiting Denmark and Sweden. The primary reason is that I'm going to the Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö. I'll stay in Copenhagen for a week so will revisit Copenhagen Zoo and see the new Arctic Ring and flamingo aviary. I will also go to Odense Zoo. I think it will all be a bit overwhelming so I'm not sure if I will make it to any other zoos on that trip.

I'm also hoping to get to Edinburgh and see the pandas.

My 2013 Zoo Visiting Plans are as follows:

-Lower North Island, New Zealand Zoo Trip: Wellington Zoo, Brooklands Zoo, Pouakai Zoo, Nga Manu, Staglands, Zealandia and Mount Bruce, all in the next month (February).

-Upper North Island, New Zealand Zoo Trip: Auckland Zoo, Hamilton Zoo, Kelly Tarlton's, plus hopefully a whale-watching cruise in the Hauraki Gulf, either late February or early May.

-Victoria, Australia, Zoo Visits: Melbourne Zoo, Werribee Open Range Zoo, Healesville Sanctuary, Melbourne Aquarium, any others in the city that I can get to!, spread out through the year from when I move there in mid-March.

-Sydney, Australia, Zoo Trip: Taronga Zoo, Sydney Wildlife World and Aquarium, Featherdale Wildlife Park, possibly others. No set date, hopefully mid-year.

-Adelaide, Australia, Zoo Trip: Adelaide Zoo, Monarto Zoo, others in the area, again no set date, hopefully mid-year.

-Singapore Zoo Trip: Singapore Zoo, Night Safari, River Safari, Jurong Bird Park, Marine Life Park, Underwater World, Insect Kingdom, hopefully some wild areas too, potentially other countries too, depending on circumstances, no set date, hopefully towards the end of 2013 this will be possible.

That's my plans anyway, fingers crossed it works out!

Western Europe wild cat tour in April. (England, France, Switzerland - some repeats, some new places).

Once you have an itinerary of your UK plans, make sure you publish them on here - I know that I for one would like to have a good chinwag with you!

PS: Not sure if you deliberately specified England rather than the UK, but either way I suggest Edinburgh Zoo is worth a visit for their Tibetan Golden Cats, which include the showiest individual I know of.

You should not miss Jerez de La Frontera in Spain. Even if you have already seen an Iberian Lynx. There´s also some more zoos in the near area. Barcelona (6 cat species), Valencia (3 cat species), Madrid (5 cat species) and Lisbon (16 cat species) have nice collections, and two of the best aquariums in the world are also in the peninsula.

@ filipinos - sadly no time for Spain on this trip :(

@ tea loving dave - I did seriously look into Edinburgh for golden cat, but have decided to do the golden cat and leopard cat at Thrigby Hall instead. (Plus I cannot resist risking my life by walking the plank over man-eating tigers! :D). I am also booked for the photo tour at Wildlife Heritage Foundation on April 20, in case any UK photogs want to join me.

I'd also be quite interested in knowing your plans and would quite like to meet another carnivore fan but I doubt you'll be hitting any of my local collections. They're not really cat places to be honest... :)

The ones in England will be Thrigby Hall, Wildlife Heritage Foundation, Howletts, Port Lympne.

Oh and possibly London Zoo on the afternoon I land, if I have time. (Probably not by the time I get through customs).

Interesting first choice, definitely a sign of a true cat fanatic! :p How about the mainland ones?
Surprised you haven't gone for Berlin, just think of those poor Javan leopards who haven't been photographed by you yet... :p
And I was right, none of the four are even remotely close to me! :D

Shame it is in April then, as I'm aiming to do the latter two collections later this year, but wouldn't be able to get to them for then :(
