Quite; the issue is in the potential change of status. Anything seen prior to then would naturally be valid either way.

Even if the vote were to go Alex Salmond's way, it would be a good while before the union were dissolved. I don't think there is any danger of Edinburgh Zoo or the HWP being separated from zoos in England in the year ahead.

London Zoo today yielded 10 old world primates, with just ruffed lemurs and bushbabies remaining invisible from the species that should be there. And the aye-aye, too, of course - I forget whether they are still present or not. So, that's....

  3. Diana monkey
  4. White-naped mangabey
  5. Kikuyu colobus
  6. Sulawesi macaque
  7. Francois' langur
  8. Ring-tailed lemur

Whilst I'm not expecting Scotland to go independent I think Sooty's right in that, even if it did, it would still be part of UK at the end of 2014.

To be clear Scotland counts throughout 2014 because it was part of the UK at the start of the year (if that seems like I'm making it up on the hoof it's because I am).

Although I'd never thought of it before the Isle of Man definitely does not count (because it's not in the UK). Not that I'm aware of any unique primate species there.

By the same reasoning I am guessing that Jersey Zoo will also not count - although all their old world primates are held in other locations, so it is not too big a loss as long as nothing happens to the Sumatran Orangs at Chester, and Bristol does not follow the example of London and put their aye-ayes offshow.

Yep, that's the corner I've painted myself into (right or wrong, I like to be consistent):).
 
There is the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum and Zoo also Alameda Wildlife Conservation Park in Gibraltar. Which according to Wikipedia has a fare few macaque species.

Plus some dolphin type places in the Caribbean.

The only old world primates in Bermuda are ring-tailed lemurs.

Apologies if I've made any mistakes, there were a few more that I saw but can't remember the exact species name, so I'll check them on my next visit.
 
Twycross has Golden-cheeked Gibbon (Nomascus gabriellae) now? That's a new arrival - unless you meant Northern White-cheeked Gibbon (Nomascus leucogenys)
 
A very difficult /next to impossible species to see now might be Allen's Swamp Monkey. The remaining ones at Paignton, if indeed they are still there, are not currently on show. It seems likely they may not re-appear and if they are still there, are presumaby in the Zoo hospital/quarantine area. If they leave, that will be the end of them in the UK.
 
Assuming the ASM's are still alive, the only species around in public collections which is less likely to be seen for the challenge are the currently-offshow Heck's Macaques at Howletts.
 
You can sometimes see animals in Paignton's hospital area if they are in the small outside cage you can see over a fence, but its partly hidden. Still, if they were using that you could still be in with a chance.:) Better go soon though!

No need to hike to Blackpool for the mouse lemurs if you're southerly - Cotswold and Bristol both have the same species on show! :D

Which all looks quite impressive for five days in, but as there were an awful lot of other Zoochatters there as well, several of whom have already done Chester this year too, it's fairly meaningless!

Also there was high drama as zoogiraffe was caught trying to count tamarins towards his total! :D
 
Well, it appears your observations have confirmed my suspicion that mazfc misidentified one of the gibbons they reported seeing at Twycross :p

After a very quick start I will not pick up many that quickly now as I have probably done the 2 collections that would give me the highest number in a very short time,that said if I get to Chester I could still pick up Red-fronted Lemur,as this species was a no show when I visted on the 1st!
 
Going by the list of 26, i reckon it's just about possible to get more than 31 from 2 collections: Colchester or London + Twycross gives the same total. Howletts or Port Lympne + Twycross = 32 & 33 respectively i think. Someone might tell me i'm wrong though.
 
Ok, so 12 days in and again as we have now passed the 15 count we must post (and again only one collection) a little slow off the mark....
