Bronx Zoo Game

Incorrect guess but thinking on the right lines.

Entirely sure :p you seem to have descended to guessing random species rather than thinking of something which fits the riddle, so I shall reiterate:

In the woodlands, a horse

As noted above, your reasoning for Nilgai was the closest you have got to thinking on the right lines.

Nope :) not Sambar, and that scientific name is incorrect in any case :p

And Kiang gets it :D

The word "capercaillie" is derived from the Scots Gaelic capull coille, which means "horse of the woods". Hence:

In the woodlands, a horse

I'm not sure that was a clue. I think he actually exploded.

I'm not cleaning the mess :p

As for kiang's riddle...... the reference to a "son of Sabrosa" almost certainly refers to Ferdinand Magellan, who came from this province of Portugal. The reference to nectar would tend to rule out the most obvious taxon which is named for this explorer, the Magellanic Penguin, but certainly fits with the Magellan Birdwing (Troides magellanus), a species of butterfly. I haven't a clue whether or not this taxon is *at* Bronx, but it's worth a try.

As such, my guess is Magellan Birdwing.
