I forgot the hybrid Galapagos tortoises, Wolf Giant Tortoise (Chelonoidis becki) x Santa Cruz Giant Tortoise (chelonoidas porteri)

Just wonder how many replies we'll get slagging the zoo off on this. If it had been a certain couple of collections this page would be full by now.

I really hope this isn't the case because the staff at Chester Zoo put in amazing work and their animal husbandry is world class they provide these animals with some of the best and natural habits in the zoological world so I really hope they don't get any stick for this mistakes happen to the best and I'm sure Chester will learn from it I imagine it wasn't even half as bad as it sounds anyway!

Probably few because this is an isolated incident in a generally very well-run collection.

Can't imagine which couple of collections you're referring to (well, perhaps one of them :) ) but perhaps they have a record of incidents?

Yes she was PT Verus.

Thanks Andy.

Went to the zoo today. The aviary in the Elephant house is now home to the Wrinkled Hornbill from the Tropical Realm. A third Sulawesi Macaque has been born.

To clear up the things about the chimps:

There are 20 Chimps at Chester- Boris, Wilson, Nicky ,Friday, Dylan, Eric, Carlos, Zee Zee, Chrissie, Patti, Tina, Sarah, Sally, Layla, Alice, Rosie, Farthing, Mandy, Kiki & Vila

Kiki, Vila, Nicky, Friday and Patti are all currently off-show, the other 15 are on show.

Will upload some photos to the gallery

20 was what I'd thought as well. Do you know if they are off show in the sleeping area or elsewhere in the zoo ?

2 new females arrived last year as part of the breeding program. I guess they are working on introductions again.

Yes, they are working on the introductions. I imagine they are in the bedroom area. I hope they include the introductions of them into the group on secret life of the zoo.

I know from visiting a lot over the last year or so that the introductions have been difficult. I've only seen 1 of the new females in the main area & that was last year. I believe they arrived July time so have been at Chester for almost a year. I guess there's been a lot going on to change the dynamic of the group over the last couple of years: a couple of the older females dieing as well as 4 females leaving & a couple of younger Males coming through the ranks can't have made the initial introductions easy. I'm curious as to how the 4 females are doing that have moved on from Chester but can't seem to find much info. I know kan Kan & Whitney went to Boras but I've no idea where Lizzie & Donna moved on to.
