By visiting two small German collections I'm able to add 4 new species ( from which 1 even is a Lifer ! ) to my 2016-list :
Neu Münster :
53 ) Alpine chamois ( Rupicapra rupicapra )
54 ) Mouflon (Ovis orientalis )

Tiergarten Kleve :
55) Asian wild ass ( Equus hemionus )
56 ) African wild ass ( Equus africanus )
Couldn't remember ever having seen an African wild ass and by checking Zootierliste I discovered it has been kept at Antwerp VERY long ago and in the Netherlands not a single animal has ever kept in a zoo ! Also the German collections with this species I've either not visited (yet) or was there at the wrong times which means I had a Lifer last weekend in a small zoo in which you wouldn't expect it.

A visit today at Zoo Duisburg was good for another 3 species :
55 ) Pygmy hippopotamus ( Choeropsis liberiensis )
56 ) Orinoco dolphin ( Iria geoffrensis )
57 ) Bottlenose dolphin ( Tursiops truncatus )

At Shanghai Zoo, 23rd April 2016

49) Addax, Addax nasomaculatus
50) Blesbok, Damaliscus pygargus

53) Goral, Naemorhedus goral (sp. unknown)
54) Black Muntjac, Muntiacus crinifrons
55) Chinese Muntjac, Muntiacus reevesi
56) Mongolian Wild Ass, Equus hemionus pallas
57) Vicuna, Vicugna vicugna
58) Northeast Red Deer (Manchurian Wapiti), Cervus xanthopygus

At Lok Kawi Wildlife Park, 1st July 2016

59) Rusa, Cervus timorensis

At Jakarta Zoo, 14th July 2016

60) Bawean Deer, Axis kuhlii
61) Sitatunga, Tragelaphus spekii
62) Nilgai, Bosephalus tragolcamelus
63) Lowland Anoa, Bubalus depressions
64) Golden Babirusa, Babirusa Babirusa
65) Javan Mousedeer, Tragslus javanicus

64) Golden Babirusa, Babirusa Babirusa
I'm assuming you are following the Babirusa split into several species (as opposed to subspecies), but regardless all captive babirusa are celebensis from mainland Sulawesi.

Interesting. First off there's a typo, I meant to write Babyrousa Babyrussa, as this was the signage. Secondly devilfish made a point of telling me to watch out for these as they were different from others in captivity. Unless you know they're signed wrong we'll have to wait for his input.

I also meant to write Babyrousa of course (not Babirusa) :D

I've seen the Jakarta babirusa and they are standard babirusa. Unless they have got Buru babirusa some time recently, which seems unlikely. However as far as I know all zoo babirusa are descended from a handful of founders at (I think, from memory) Surabaya and Jakarta.

Would I be allowed to count Armenian red sheep (Ovis gmelini)? It's kind of a mouflon so that's why I'm asking.

I would say so, yes.

I haven't updated my list in ages because the taxonomy thing was rather off-putting, but now that that's been largely resolved, I will re-post my list.

2) Common Fallow Deer

10) Eastern Bongo
11) Rothschild's Giraffe
12) Chinese Goral
13) Chinese Bharal
14) Indian Rhino
15) Vietnamese Sika Deer
16) Sichuan Takin
17) Hartmann's Mountain Zebra
18) Przewalski's Horse
19) Southern Pudu

Nairobi Safari Walk: (Kenya)
20) Pygmy Hippo

24) Southern White Rhino
25) Common Impala
26) Defassa Waterbuck
27) Thomson's Gazelle
28) Bush Duiker
29) Giant Forest Hog
30) Kirk's Dik-dik

Gdansk Zoo: (Poland)
31) Kafue Lechwe
32) Nilgai
33) Brazilian Tapir
34) Chapman's Zebra
35) European Red Deer
37) European Wild Boar
38) Reeve's Muntjac
39) Lowland Anoa
40) Eurasian Elk (Moose)
42) Alfred's Spotted Deer
43) Mishmi Takin

And I have managed to add a very small number of new ones since March when that list was last updated. I spent two months travelling around Australia in June and July and I have posted a thread about that in the Australia forum, but despite obviously visiting numerous zoos in that time, I only saw a total of seven species applicable for this challenge! That's not seven new ones, that's seven non-domesticated ungulate and cetacean species in total!

Anyway, the only new ones for this list out of those seven were three cetaceans from Sea World Gold Coast:

44) Common Bottlenosed Dolphin
45) Indo-pacific Bottlenosed Dolphin
46) Australian Humpback Dolphin

I also had a short amount of time in the UK in August and managed to add a few species.

New Forest Wildlife Park:

47) European Roe Deer
48) European Mouflon

Howletts Wild Animal Park:

50) Red River Hog
51) Axis Deer
52) Hog Deer
53) Blackbuck
54) Greater Kudu
55) Black Rhino

I wasn't going to update this list at all, but I didn't want to leave it half finished.

Visiting a Monkey/Ape park and even so 2 new species of ungulates for the 2016 challenge ! By visiting Apenheul yesterday this was possible !
67 ) Southern pudu ( Pudu puda )
68 ) Aoudad ( Ammotragus lervia )

I don't suppose I can count the species I saw yesterday at the National Museum of Natural History? There's only that slight problem of them all being dead :p.

On a more serious note, will I be able to count what I see at Smithsonian's Conservation Biology Institute? It has severely limited opening, but my argument is that the National Zoo would have those species if they had the room, so it's basically just an extension. It's up to you, though.
