Trip to GaiaZOO got me this guy :D

Netherlands:
126) Greater spotted woodpecker, Dendrocopos major

Another update, spurred on by a very enjoyable spot of casual birding today which somehow managed to result in possibly the most unusual wild lifetick I have *ever* picked up after I stumbled on a large number of twitchers enjoying a rare vagrant :) these additions are the result of several trips to the Northumberland coastline over the last few weeks.

A visit to a local coastal site allowed me to pick up a new wader for my life list, that had been hanging around in the area for several days. And on arriving back at home, also saw a large swarm of a lifer dragonfly species.

146. Pectoral sandpiper Calidris melanotos

12. Migrant hawker dragonfly Aeshna mixta

In all the excitement of my week's holiday in Norfolk followed a wildlife filmmaking course at the weekend, I have realised that I haven't updated my list since the Norfolk holiday. I managed to add six birds (two of them very nice lifers) and one mammal:

147. Pink-footed goose Anser brachyrhynchus
148. Great white egret Ardea alba
149. Common eider Somateria mollissima [Nt]
150. Desert wheatear Oenanthe deserti
151. Snow bunting Plectrophenax nivalis
152. Water rail Rallus aquaticus

22. Atlantic grey seal Halichoerus grypus

Thought I would post photographs of my unexpected - and very much appreciated - lifetick from Saturday given the fact I just uploaded some into the gallery:

This morning I went on a walk at Heybridge gravel pits (one of my regular haunts) in search of a lifer bird that had turned up, which I saw reasonably easily. Slightly more exciting was another scarce vagrant (not quite a lifer) that I found by myself.

153. European serin Serinus serinus
154. Tundra bean goose Anser fabalis rossicus

And with that, I have equalled my bird total for last year!

99. Australian Darter

I made an error in misidentifying a Little Egret at position 87, so I'm replacing it with:

87. Pacific Golden Plover

and adding

101. Oriental Pratincole

:p

Bat box check in chilly South Derbyshire today - was keen to get to this check in particular as it typically produces a particular species otherwise scarce in the bat group's box schemes, but of which we found around 16 individuals today:

55. Natterer's Bat - Myotis nattereri

:)

464. Plain nightjar

Arrived in Amani NR in Tanzania, not much new stuff yet, but that will come

465. House crow
466. Brown-hooded kingfisher
467. Black-and-white mannikin
468. Green-headed oriole
469. Square-tailed drongo
470. Forest weaver
471. Olive sunbird

Mammals
79. Yellow baboon
80 Straw-coloured fruit bat
81. Garnett's galago
82. Zanj sun squirrel

I have now seen more mammal species than ever before in one year and with a lot of luck even 100 mammal species might be possible this year...
