It is impossible for me to fit the entire enclosure into one frame, as to the left of this shot is an underground den and thick foliage that can sometimes obscure the solitary female bear from view. As of October 12th, my wife and I have visited this zoo 23 times so far in 2009. During those 23 visits we have not seen "Shadow" the grizzly on perhaps 5 occasions, but never once have we seen any kind of stereotypical behaviour. She is always foraging for food, swimming in her large pool, or digging numerous holes all over the exhibit. The habitat is simply magnificent for the bear, and the only major drawback is that the viewing is not the best for visitors. People look down into the exhibit, and there is only the single, high viewing platform that looks out onto the 1.5 acre enclosure.
