12/15/11 - Bharal sighting?

Clear Nubian Ibex in the center, Possible Bharals on the top left on the ridge, you need to zoom into see, but they clearly are not aoudads or female Nubian ibex. Gray coloration with dark markings on shoulders and along the belly, but short horns dont show the traditional bharal horns.

Thats the big question. They historically have and I know they had some last year. People say they don't now.

@Otter Lord: do you know what is going on with the master plan for the Safari Park?

A few years back the magazine had an article saying that they were going to develop an Asian trek component of the park to give visitors access to the Asian exhibits that were cut off when the monorail shut down. Nothing more has been released about this to my knowledge, other than their plans to rebuild the Sumatran tiger exhibit.

Is there any indication that the new tiger exhibit is actually going to be built?

There is one in the center, four on the top left. You might have to zoo in using your browser or download the photo and use an image viewing program.

I don't know what is up with their master plan. Their Asian tram they have not started because of lack of funds to finish the African Tram Safari. There is basically no construction going on at the Safari Park right now. None in the African Tram and none for the tigers.

They recently had a major fundraiser to benefit the sumatran tiger exhibit and they are asking for donations towards it from the members. There was an article on tigers in the latest member magazine that mentioned the new exhibit at the park. I am virtually certain we will see construction start sometime in 2012 with an opening sometime in 2013.

When I was there in 2010 I remember hearing that the zoo and safari park had been left a very large donation. Which I thought was enough to cover the Sumatran tiger habitat?

I believe that donation is set aside for a redo of Cat Canyon (or whatever they call it now) at the zoo.

African Rocks is the name, and the exhibit seems like it will be an extension of the kopje or more African animals.
