Thanks for these photos! I remember from my 1995 visit (second and last one to date) Drabo and one of the lionesses in the exhibit. The fence was not there and no cubs, maybe the second lioness was on the back with them. In both my visits (1991 and 1995) Drabo was occupying the higher rock ledge, to the right of the exhibit, but here he is using the one I always saw the lionesses on. But of course this is in a typical male lion fashion to do whatever he wants!
On second thought, are you sure this was taken in 1995? I remember that on my second visit to Hagenbeck, in 1995, a kind of viewing deck had been dug into the grass part and up towards the moat, so that visitors could have a closer look at the lions on the left rock ledge. Once I get a chance to scan my 1995 photos (after I have uploaded all my digital photos) you will see. That there were no cubs and no fence might support this thought of mine (see my earlier comment) but of course you are a local Hamburg citizen so you will know the truth better than me. Still I can recall both my visits well, despite the young age at the time!
I am very sure it was taken 1995.
Your viewingdeck is the little moatpathway, exsisting as long as the enclosure (1907) Its waaay on the left, not to see here in the pic.
