The official groundbreaking is tentatively scheduled for sometime this July (2009). Although there is no definite timeline for completion that I know of, I would speculate it could take 2 years (although 1 year would be better). It will be in a soccer field right behind the current zoo boundary, adding some very necessary acreage to our small (15 acre) zoo.
We are all very excited, especially since we hope to increase our elephant herd from 2 to 3 or 4. Elephants are phase 1. Phase 2 will be some other african animals, as yet to be determined. Total expansion is 7 acres, half for the elephants and half for phase 2.
