A very nice species, from a group of mustelids which really does need more love.

Does anyone else remember one of these at London Zoo in the 1970s, probably in the Clore Paviliion?

Certainly do. I think that they went off to Thrigby, where rather oddly they were kept in an enclosure alongside Estuarine Crocodiles.

To add to the confusion, although the Thrigby animals *were* the Chinese Ferret-Badger as far as I know, I'm pretty sure they were not the same animals as had previously been held at Regents Park; the latter animals left the collection in 1967, having been at the collection for some years and never bred, whilst Thrigby went out of the species in late 1989, or possibly early 1990.

As ferret-badgers, although a little-studied group, tend to have a lifespan of roughly a decade, it is therefore very unlikely the animals were the same individuals.

Sad to say, the Prague animals have now died off, leaving Europe once again bereft of any ferret-badger taxa :(
