Not to dent your enthusiasm, but do you think the gallery benefited from this image? Supposedly, storing all the uploaded files is an issue, so some self-curation is probably a good idea.
@SMR Speaking purely as a member, I agree we could use more self-curation in general, but I wonder if this was the best place to make a stand? Especially given the caption and PaleoMatt's very low upload count.
@SMR I know it's not the best of pictures but I added it for a couple of reasons:
It was the first time I had ever seen one and I wanted others to see as not many have before.
Also Charlie Simmonds requested that I upload it. I try to only upload my best pictures.
@FunkyGibbon Given that posts on the subject would be otherwise buried in the general forum, I think it was the best place, but I'm certainly open to suggestions.
But, as I said, I don't want to curb your enthusiasm having seen the bird, I know all too well what it's like to look for a species countless times and never spot it. The comment was more about the upload.
@SMR I was thinking more in terms of using a different example all together (although actually I think because of the way photo comments are not really reported you would have more luck in the forum section). Moderators are trying to be a little more active with curating the gallery, but only with the more egregious examples. By all means report any you think are deserving of attention
