Seeing at least a dozen chimpanzees walk in single-file out of the jungle backdrop was an amazing zoo experience, and this massive, 3-acre exhibit is one of the best ever created for primates. The zoo has a large troop, thus if visitors are patient and willing to sit and wait then they are bound to see at least a couple of chimps on their visit.
Congo Gorilla Forest is equally brilliant, and there are other exhibits there besides the gorillas (red river hogs, mandrills, colobus monkeys, okapis, etc). The Bronx Zoo's masterpiece is better for visitors, as there are closer encounters with the animals, but it is tough to top a 3-acre forested hillside that allows chimpanzees full access to a massive wooded area. Kansas City Zoo has a brilliant exhibit for its apes, but I've heard from fellow ZooChatters that if the chimps are all buried deep in the forest then the habitat can at times be gorgeous but seemingly empty.
I would like to add that there was a lot more thought involved with the Bronx Zoo's gorilla exhibit as there are many built in enrichment features and every little detail was taken into account, while this exhibit is essentially 3 acres of Missouri woods fenced off.
I will like to thank the both of you for your opinions, hopefully I will get a chance to get up to Kansas to see their excellent African Area. But it is more likely that I will get to the Bronx Zoo first though.

Well, it has been over a year and a half since you posted your reply and I'm curious to learn if you have made it to either Kansas City or the Bronx zoos. If not then hopefully one day!
