On Sunday we saw a chimp way up in one of the trees and it was breathtaking to know that they have such range within this habitat.

The bar for a chimp exhibit has been raised very high with this, best in the world....absolutely AWESOME!! :)

I firmly believe that this immense, 3-acre forested habitat gives the Bronx Zoo's Congo Gorilla Forest a run for its money in terms of the best great ape exhibit in any American zoo. Visiting Kansas City was one of the highlights of my 40 zoo/aquarium road trip in the summer of 2010.

This exhibit is a masterpiece. We saw five chimps about 40 feet in the trees in a real forest. We had lots of zoo left to see but could not leave this amazing experience.

The question is why are more chimp exhibits not like this? An obvious answer is that there are not many zoos with the native vegetation that the KC Zoo has.
