Milwaukee Man

5/19/2014 - Outdoor Gorilla Exhibit

Milwaukee County Zoo regularly receives over 1.2 million visitors each year and yet the zoo really is not very good. Some folks point out that having great attendance numbers means that a specific facility is a success, but having anything remotely decent in terms of exhibitry would be more pleasurable for many zoo nerds. This Wisconsin zoo has not really had any major new animal exhibits in almost 25 years and many alterations during that time have been basic renovation overhauls or visitor amenities like a flashy new entrance. A large chunk of the zoo dates to 40 or 50 years ago and the elephant exhibit is legendary for its pure awfulness. On the bright side, the animal collection is impressive and there is a nice selection of big cats, bears, primates, hoofstock and a Reptile House/Aquarium, Bird House and even a Small Mammal House with a nocturnal section.
