Javan Rhino

A use for the longhouse aviary

After an unfortunately annoying crack shot from a seagull, I went on a mystical journey around Twycross and, at the conclusion of the epic tale, I answered the question zoochatters have asked for generations [metaphorically]: What is the point of the Bornean longhouse aviary

[Comment all very tongue in cheek, even if it's not geographically accurate I do actually like the aviary itself and with a bit of work it could be a real highlight of the zoo].

Credit to bongorob for the photograph.

Maybe you have found the point of it all, Javan Rhino. I think the hair driers are going in soon.

Despite your brave attempt/demonstration at answering this continuing riddle, I remain unconvinced.:)

What intruges me is how they came to choose this 'Borneo Longhouse' theme, as its totally unlike any of their other buildings. Was 'Mary Brancker' after whom the aviary is named, the benefactor of this also? Did she ask specifically for a Borneo Longhouse to be built? And if so, why? I remain in the dark about the reasons for its origin/development.
