The first genuine zoo I went to and hence maybe the one closest to my heart.
One of the two old Polar Bear exhibits. The bears received another and much better exhibit in 1999. There is another bear in the pool but can hardly be seen because of the one pacing.
I am very much interested in every new picture from the Danish zoos that you upload, Baldur! Aalborg zoo is one of the Danish zoos that I am likely to visit sometime or the other within the next few years.
A bit of a shock to see this "pool". Was that all the water available to the bears? What a disgrace...
This indeed seems to have been the only water available to the bears in this enclosure. Next door was a second polar bear enclosure (back in those days the polar bears were in the same row as the big cats, at the right end of the cat row) and according to the map in the 1985 guidebook, the pool there was bigger, even if it does not show on the photo of that enclosure.
