Aalborg Zoo - Savannah

  • Media owner Toddy
  • Date added
The large African savanna in Aalborg Zoo. This exhibit features rothchild’s giraffes (Giraffa camelopardalis rothschildi), grevy’s zebras (Equus grevyi), greater kudus (Tragelaphus strepsiceros), scimitar-horned oryx (Oryx dammah) and ostriches (Struthio camelus).
The savannah is the largest exhibit at the zoo. All animals can be seen indoors as well in either The African Village or the Giraffe House.

The giraffes used to be able to come all the way up to the visitor fence but due to overfeeding by the visitors this practice was stopped in the early 2000’s.

They have lots of space there, nice. I always wondered how cold places would keep warm weather species in captivity, but for what I have seen all these animals do adapt very well.

I believe that most of the original stock of scimitar-horned oryx imported by Marwell to the UK many years ago came from Aalborg .
