Aalborg Zoo - Tropical House (Caiman exhibit)

  • Media owner Toddy
  • Date added
The exhibit for black caimans (Melanosuchus niger) inside the Tropical House in Aalborg Zoo. Several species of tropical fish also live in here. Aalborg Zoo is one of only 7 zoos in Europe keeping black caimans.

The black caimans arrived in 2011 replacing the American alligators (Alligator mississippiensis) that used to inhabit this exhibit, originally built for slender-snouted crocodiles (Mecistops cataphractus).

The Tropical House is a good example of 1980’es zoo architecture and features mostly reptiles but also a few small mammals, birds, amphibians and fish.
