A snake exhibit designed to be viewed from a car is definitely a new one on me. Sadly not enough sun to tempt out our viperine friends.

Where in the Safari Drive is the Adder pits situated? Can you get out of your vehicle and view them directly?

It's in the car 'air-lock' on the way into the Dhole reserve (as you enter from the Barbary Sheep/Persian Fallow Deer reserve). As such, you can't leave your car. It's on the left hand side of two lane traffic, so you need to position your car correctly to get a decent view!

If you can't get out of your car then why do they need the netting over the top? Is that a DWA thing?

Possibly. Or they're worried about birds of prey?

Maybe the odd vagrant short-toed eagle

I never said it was a valid worry! :D

It occurs to me that the enclosure for the same species at Wildwood is open-topped and you can walk right up to that, so it can't be a requirement (unless the local council have demanded it).

Yes I've seen pits like this where you can lean right over and even touch the snakes were you so inclined. Maybe the visitors to WMSP can't be trusted :)

What a unique exhibit, although having viewing only from an automobile seems slightly ridiculous. What does DWA stand for in Britain? (Dallas World Aquarium?:))
