Africa-African Elephants

In 2000 one our two male elephants provided sperm for the first? artificial insemination in Indianapolis. Casey dies in 2003, and Dale only two months later. Since then we have had no males, only 7 elderly females. Other than that, I dont think we've had any baby African elephants.

We got rid of our last Asian elephant sometime in the 80's but there were several baby Asian elephants over the years.

It strike me as odd, because in 2007, Zoey, then 24, was transferred to the zoo. At that point both Dale & Casey had been dead for four years... So the zoo may have possibly been pursuing an AI program?

Dale was the sperm donor, which resulted in the birth of Amali, who unfortunately died as well at three years old from a bacterial infection...

There were never any Asian Elephant births at the Kansas City Zoo.

But the zoo did successfully bred the Africans once (naturally), which resulted in a stillbirth in 2001.
