This exhibit, right near the end of a major pathway, is also slated to be demolished? The enclosure is at least twice as large as this photo suggests (connecting yards) and it is by no means terrible but I suppose that there are a lot of exhibits that will soon be nothing but dust in the old Dog & Cat Canyon section of the zoo. Does anyone know exactly how many exhibits will be bulldozed? Twenty?
I've always stated in my 4 tours around San Diego Zoo that the left-hand side of the zoo map is filled with tremendously exciting exhibits and the right-hand side of the zoo is the part with a number of outdated, mediocre enclosures. For those ZooChatters that never visited before 2008 the right-hand side of the zoo will have changed a lot with 2009's "Elephant Odyssey" and then 2017's "Africa Rocks". Each complex is approximately 8 acres in size and for a major zoo to completely overhaul 16 acres and a massive number of exhibits is quite astonishing. When the AZA Conference is held in San Diego in late 2016 the "Africa Rocks" zone will still be under construction.
