There is no indoor viewing and I could not see the elephants due to the re-thatching of the shade structures. Caldwell has a major decision to make as they only have two older elephants and the exhibit is obviously not up to modern standards. Phase the species out...or break the bank to build a better habitat?
The time is ticking, that's for sure and the giraffes need a better enclosure too. I believe Dallas considered phasing them out before they got a major donation to build Giants of the Savanna. I would hate to see a potential state-of-the-art elephant exhibit not to be built but if the Caldwell Zoo can't pull that off I'd love to see them go to Dallas or the upcoming ones at Sedgwick County and Omaha.
