@jbnbsn99: I found it intriguing that in your recent review of the new African complex at the Houston Zoo you compared this chimpanzee enclosure rather favourably to the excellent chimp exhibit at your own Dallas Zoo. Personally I think that the 3-acre chimpanzee jungle at the Kansas City Zoo (with a massive meadow and a large air-conditioned building with windows) might well be just as impresssive as the gorilla exhibit at the Bronx Zoo, and therefore a strong contender for America's best primate enclosure.
If Kansas City has by far and away the best chimpanzee exhibit that I've ever seen (and probably one of the largest of any zoo on the planet) then after that I've loved the chimp exhibits at Dallas, Los Angeles and North Carolina. Also, Busch Gardens looks excellent but I've never visited that zoo/theme park, and Saint Louis and even Tulsa each have above average chimp exhibits. It's a pity that I toured the Houston Zoo just a few months before the grand opening of its new African zone, but that just means that I'll have to visit the zoo again on another road trip!
Having not seen KCs I can't really comment on it, but what I really liked here was the interaction with the chimps. It is well designed and thought out. It may not be the most naturalistic, but it serves both the chimps and the visitors perfectly.
