African Savanna

Oct. 29th, 2011.
What species do they have running around in there with the giraffes these days?

Behind the giraffe in the centre of the photo is a termite mound and a set of branches where I sometimes see patas monkeys, but those primates are in a separate exhibit. On the main savanna there are giraffes, zebras, ostriches, fringe-eared oryx and Grant's gazelles. The habitat is 31 years old and it still holds up beautifully, although the zoo really needs a few more animals as I believe that there are around 2 of each species.

Also black spur-winged goose. I think if they had too many animals it would start to feel crowded as it isn't a huge enclosure. (although far from tiny).
