Wow, these are awesome looking birds. I don't think I have ever heard of these before. Any in captivity?

They are among the best birds going! :D

There are none in captivity that I'm aware of - though they may turn up as rescue birds where they're in range. There are three species, the others being Black Skimmer (R. niger, from the Americas) and Indian Skimmer (R. albicollis).

I've seen Black Skimmers in Florida, which were amazing ( http://www.zoochat.com/729/black-skimmer-terns-huguenot-memorial-park-346278/ ) but didn't get up and skim! These African ones were much more fun: http://www.zoochat.com/795/african-skimmers-moremi-game-reserve-botswana-448492/

We have black skimmers in Southern California. They look like little pterosaurs when they fly. It is fantastic to see them skim along the ocean.

I am not aware of any in captivity, although there may have been at some point.
