Being an 'apex predator' has nothing to do with it - Red Fox is the UK's apex predator these days! :D

The fence is very sturdy - I have no worries about it. Other UK places use very similar fences for this species.

Knowsley's fence is pretty much identical (http://www.zoochat.com/204/african-hunting-dogs-knowsley-safari-park-122181/) - though this is perhaps no surprise as I believe that's where these animals came from.

I was more concerned with the height though I can see an overhang, and how well its sunk underground. Port Lympne's Dogs are behind similar mesh too if I remember correctly.

And it also looks as if there is some sort of electric wire barrier set lowdown along the fence, maybe to keep them from approaching it closely. So its probably safer than first appearance.
 
Yup - otherwise I'd probably have taken this through the mesh! ;)
