Agouti exhibit - 1975

This exhibit now houses Meerkats - the shrub and the hill have been removed and replaced with sand.
Most of the agouis were old, and some were blind. The enclosure was full of rats, which lived in the agouti burrows and would actually take food from the agouti's paws while they were eating it! The 1978-79 Annual report lists 22 agoutis held at Taronga.

The cage in the background had squirrel monkeys, the one beyond that housed lemurs.

The finish on the squirrel monkey enclosure is very taronga and you can still see some of it today on the giraffe house.

Hey Hix, How wide were the Dog row pens you told me about that held the Hunting Dogs, Dingoes and Singing Dogs?

I was wondering if you might know what time period the round exhibit that housed a pair of Binturongs (Mr and Mrs B if i remember correct) was built (behind the discovery farm and next door to the old Red Panda and Otter exhibits), the cable car went over it if i remember too

The dog cages were around 10 metres wide, but of varying depths. At one stage the Hunting dogs had access to two of the enclosures.
I have photos of the round enclosure from 1975 when it housed Taronga's first red pandas, and considering it was all concrete and similar to a lot of other styles at the zoo, I'd say it was constructed in the 50's or maybe even before then.
