This exhibit now houses Meerkats - the shrub and the hill have been removed and replaced with sand.
Most of the agouis were old, and some were blind. The enclosure was full of rats, which lived in the agouti burrows and would actually take food from the agouti's paws while they were eating it! The 1978-79 Annual report lists 22 agoutis held at Taronga.
The cage in the background had squirrel monkeys, the one beyond that housed lemurs.
