During my Grandmothers funeral two Florida Sandhill Cranes landed right next to use. Don't judge me but I took them as a message from my Grandma as my family usually has experiences with birds shortly after people pass and I've always wanted to see the animals. That night I saw a chick in a pond behind my cousin's house and the next morning I saw a large flock of American White Ibis (another species I've always wanted to see). Hopefully those two cranes weren't too familiar with people like these two. Sad their chick died.

Another reason why they were brought here is because they didn't do well with their flock members, but did well with each other. They are actually one of the most dangerous animals in the zoo according to one keeper, as if you don't pay attention while you're with them, your eye is going to get pecked out.
