I think this is a newer addition? On the side is a second fence inside the main fence with straw on the ground and a gate at each end that can be opened or closed (both open in this photo). Due to the shape of it (long and narrow like an alligator) I would guess they train the alligator to enter it and they can close the gates to keep him separated when necessary?
