KB this is the Chapultepec zoo in Cuernavaca, Morelos, which is much smaller than the Chapultepec zoo in Mexico city. Most native parrots in mexican zoos are rescues that are confiscated from the illegal pet trade, but various mexican zoos have breeding projects for psittacines, of which Xcaret is the most sucessfull.
I appreciate if you could tell more about the various psittacine projects in Mexico within the local zoo community!
BTW: I do believe confiscated psittacines can be the best reservoir for setting up ex situ conservation breeding projects and provide hatchlings and chicks from their programs to soft-/hard-releases to support existing and new populations of these psittacines in the natural habitat.
