Amazon River Forest Exhibit

There are quite a few top notch Amazon zones in North America, and places like Shedd Aquarium, Vancouver Aquarium, Baltimore, Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo, Oregon Zoo, etc all have at least one diverse, mixed-species Amazon exhibit. Shedd has an entire wing devoted to brilliant South American habitats.

The others you mention are far superior to this one, I photographed this one as an example of most of the older small exhibits in this facility...not bad, just average.

Amazon Exhibits

The Amazon River Forest Exhibit is the beginning of the "Rainforest Story" at the aquarium on Level 4. Guests are first introduced to the river, then the ground floor and canopy in the Upland Tropical Rainforest on Level 5. The Amazon River Forest Exhibit was built in 2000 and the Upland Tropical Rainforest Exhbit was built in 1981 when the aquairum opened.

This Exhibit is one of the best and most beautyful amazon river tanks I've ever seen. Before it was opened in 2000, for what animals they have used this tank ?

I count 21 identification labels at the top of the tank, and in the tank I can see pacu, pink-tailed chalceus, banded leporinus, flag-tailed prochilodus, uaru, a freshwater stingray, a turtle species, and some sort of geophagine near the left?

it is a nice tank, but the pacu should not be in there. Unless the tank is larger than it appears it is too cramped for such a big fish.

yes I realise it is one tank, my point was more that the tank appears to be quite cluttered with furniture for a fish of the pacu's size so there's not a lot of free swimming space. But it may just appear that way from the photo, and perhaps there is ample free area?
