@brown bear 555 the short of it is, Amur leopards are critically endangered and they need all the holders they can get. They look similar to African leopards, which are much more common in the wild, so are often used if a zoo decides they want to have a leopard in their African section. (Maryland Zoo*, San Diego Zoo, The Living Desert, etc.)
*Maryland Zoo used to have African leopards until their last one, Hobbes, died in 2012. They then got an Amur leopard named Sofiya.
