Amur Tiger Exhibit

March 4th, 2010.
It's too bad that there a ditch in front of the viewing window. It would be nice to be able to see the tiger right up against the glass like at various other zoos.

This is a pretty recent modification--maybe post-San Francisco they raised the moat wall and this is the only way to provide a view now???? It used to be all over-moat viewing, so that 's the only explanation I can think of for this otherwise very odd new addition.

There are now 3 of these viewing windows, and while they are practically identical to each other they only allow zoo visitors to get approximately 5 feet closer to the Amur tigers. I think that they were added less than a year ago, but it does seem a little bizarre because aside from the 3 large window-viewing sections the rest of the visitor area is still a low cement wall that is easy to look over. This tiger exhibit is already badly outdated, as it is essentially an old-style grotto.
