Animal Adventures MA 7/22 - Snapping turtle

Well, thats depressing isnt it... And I thought my local reptile zoos alligator snapper tank was small, but can it even turn around?

@DelacoursLangur It can't, and it isn't fully submerged, either. I didn't think anything could be worse for this species than the one I saw at Luray Zoo in Virginia

I understand that zoos like this have little money compared to accredited ones, but it will never fail to surprise me how zoos like these can allow this. This turtle has absolutely nothing to do. No enrichment, not even a deeper pool to swim in. I can't imagine having to just sit there your whole life. Absolutely shameful.

@MonkeyBat They should be turning away animals, not adding more.

What does this turtle tank say about the individual(s) who placed the animal there? Is there someone out there who is totally heartless and doesn't care about the living conditions of this particular animal, or are they an uneducated buffoon who legitimately thinks that it's okay to leave a snapping turtle in such a tiny area? Bizarre.

@snowleopard I really hope this one was a quick temporary thing, unlike the Luray one. *That* one had signs about being sponsored by the Irwins.

@snowleopard At least the turtle is smaller than the morelet's crocodile I saw in this tank on my visit.
