A sad tale: It's quite unusual to witness parents educating their children about zoo animals so my ears pricked up a few weeks ago when a father was trying to ID the gorillas for his young son using this gorilla sign. There were three on show as Pertinax is kept separate now. The father decided that one was Pertinax however and read out the description. He then misidentified the others. These signs were erected in 2016 I reckon, so the gorillas look quite young compared to now.
The orangutan sign is even more bewildering for visitors, featuring as it does Mali and Tatty who were shipped off to Colchester last year, Gambira who died last year and also gibbon, Naomi, who died in 2019. Not included is male, Wousan, who arrived on 2017, adding further confusion to those IDing 'the mummy, the daddy and the baby'. As the three missing orangs have a special place in my heart, I'd gladly buy this sign to help them replace it if finance is a problem.
Coincidence or what? I finally get around to uploading the above photos and comment only to visit the zoo and find they've put nice new signs up since last Thursday
