Artis - Gorilla outdoor exhibit

The outdoor exhibit for lowland gorillas in Artis Amsterdam. A good and decent-sized exhibit. Lush with a few hotwire-protected shrubberies adding to the forest-feeling of the exhibit. The white-throated guenons also living here have complete access to the huge live tree in the middle of the exhibit.

i think this outdoor exhibit is good enough for the gorillas as i am probably the one who cares most about gorillas i think its good

I would rate this enclosure as adequate for the small group of Gorillas it contains(four adults + 2/3 babies) but not better than that. It is quite old and not as large in real life as it looks in the picture but the animals can move around it freely and the shrubs/trees in the middle provide some natural landscaping. Unfortunately Artis as a city zoo is quite hemmed in and it would be difficult to extend exhibits like this one.

Can the guenons also access the second tree in the background? It certainly appears from the perspective in the photo that they would be able to move between the crowns of both trees. If so, how are they prevent from reaching the roof of the building?

Nope the three in the background is inside the exhibit., but the trunk is covered with plastic or something like that. And is to far away from the other tree.
