Asian + African Elephant Exhibit

Aug. 1st, 2011.
Reid Park Zoo is a fairly small facility that can be toured in about 2 hours, and at the moment there are several empty enclosures. The exhibit in this photo is barren of any inhabitants, the mandrill cage is currently empty and awaiting black-and-white ruffed lemurs, the old polar bear grotto has zero occupants and the lion-tailed macaques are having their enclosure revamped and so they too are not to be seen. That makes 4 major habitats that are all completely empty, and the zoo has even come up with some kind of discount policy to make up for the lack of animals.

Most of the problems that you have flagged are temporary and soon all but the old elephant exhibit will be back online - not seeing why that is a problem? They seem to be acting quite swiftly to fix the former polar bear exhibit.

Are lion-tailed macaques being phased out of zoos? The news item about the renovation said that the zoo has only 3 individuals. The zoo used to have a whole troop of them.
