Nope you are all right he is standing on the rock,this is because at the moment he is not 100% sure about the sand,but he is slowly getting used to it.

I thought it was pretty unusual behaviour- so he's been spending most of his first day or two balanced on a little rock to avoid the sand? Hope he gets over his jitters soon.

As far as I could see, he didn't spend any time perched on the rock today. His introduction to one of the females went well too - karoocheetah has the video.
