Born in approximately 1974 in Assam, India, Dumbo came to Antwerp Zoo in 1996 and stayed there, with some intervals for breeding attempts, until being moved to Planckendael in 2012. Dumbo is the matriarch of the herd and is very large, unusually large in fact, for a female Asian elephant.
