Does anyone know exactly how many acres are given to the zoo's elephants? The zoo has one of the largest Asian Elephant exhibits in the nation and I'm curious as to the acreage.
@snowleopard I'm seeing a bunch of different results online, but most sources point towards 10 acres of total space (indoor and out), which should make it the largest Asian Elephant facility in an AZA zoo. I believe it already was prior to the expansion. In fact, it could be the largest overall elephant facility in any AZA zoo, beating Animal Kingdom (9 acres)
@snowleopard roughly 3 acres total; using an area calculator online the large enclosure here is 2 acres, and then there are 2 additional half-acre enclosures. That's not including the square footage of their house also.
@Coelacanth18 I'm getting measurements of 3 Acres ONLY for the exhibits built in 2010, not including the expansion to it's right, which totals over 7 acres in overall space.
@Moebelle Interesting. The current map design looks different, it only has rhinos on the right side now. I do think I remember now seeing elephant signage over by the rhinos and wondering if it was/had been flex space.
