This really is a gorgeous elephant exhibit, but it is also far too small for its inhabitants. At least the zoo provides a ton of enrichment ideas for their pachyderms.
ZooLex lists the entire Wild Asia precinct at the Taronga Zoo as 1.2 hectares (Aussies use hectares) which converts to about 2.6 acres. But that is for the entire area, including 10 animal exhibits (gibbons, otters, tapirs, elephants, fishing cats, etc) and it's been debated here at ZooChat many times but at the end of the day the elephants certainly have less than a single acre of space. The exhibit is actually full of enrichment, but the 5 female elephants have about half an acre in total. I've been to Sydney and it's a nicely designed exhibit, but as I've said before ridiculously small compared to the mega elephant habitats that are cropping up at zoos worldwide.

Yo mean 2 male calves (soon to be another calf) and 4 females right? (the bull has been moved to his own enclosure). I think that Luk Chai or Pathi Harn (sp?) might leave when they are mature, possibly to Dubbo?
