Really interesting to see the different parenting styles. Mali likes to keep Roi Yim close, whilst Dokkoon allows Aiyara to venture away and interact with the other elephants.
Porntip and Pak Boon are two other females I can think of who are much like Mali; and are very protective of their calves and take much more time to allow their calves to go away and sort of go off on their own. Both females are also very dominant, so Mali may grow up to be that sort of female too. Melbourne does lack a ‘true’ matriarch in that sense.
