Asian Highlands - Snow Leopard Exhibit

snowleopard, would you rank this as the best snow leopard exhibit in North America?

Interestingly enough in the far north-eastern section of the United States there are 5 top-notch snow leopard exhibits to be found at the Bronx Zoo, Central Park Zoo, Stone Zoo, Philadelphia Zoo and Roger Williams Park Zoo. My #1 choice would be the Bronx and its trio of snow leopard habitats, with one of them being outstanding.

Roger Williams Park Zoo: (an underrated selection with a large rocky wall)

With 5 of the best being in that one tiny section of the nation it creates a dilemma for those individuals wanting to see the species in a naturalistic environment who live outside of that area, and Utah's Hogle Zoo definitely has a fine exhibit in the brilliant Asian Highlands zone. Woodland Park Zoo's snow leopard enclosure is about 30 years old and it is very good for the animals but it has poor viewing areas.

I would say himalayan highlands at the Bronx Zoo is the nations best snow leopard exhibit. It has 3 separate habitats the replicate the himalayan mountains.

David, they have the ability to rotate any of the cats into any exhibit. Last month when I visited the snow leopards were in the largest exhibit which is most often the tiger exhibit. The exhibit furthest south which held a tiger in July, is the one that is predominantly for snow leopards (and the subject of this photo). Hopefully that made sense.

yeah makes perfect sense, that is even cooler to know. Thanks for the info Ituri.

Hopefully the tigers don't ever get rotated into the Palllas cat complex!

That one I have not seen, but I have seen the lynx in that space and snow leopards in the space the lynx are normally in.

This is definitely the highlight of the zoo. Get some more exhibits like this and it has the potential to be a first-class zoo.
