asian turtle exhibit

The best turtle exhibit I have seen. Built as part of Tiger River, in what I would call San Diego's prime - back when they knew how to build exhibits. Occupants are:
red-bellied short necked turtle
indo-gangetic flapshell turtle
chinese stripe-necked turtle
broad-shelled turtle
fly river turtle

Would this have been Indian Gharials in 1998? I think this is where I saw them (my only sighting of the species to date).

Interesting historical info - I thought gharials were the first inhabitants. In fact, I hate to say it, I do not even know what a tomistoma is.

When the gharials got too big for the exhibit, a new exhibit was built at the end of Reptile Mesa, which is where they are now. Nice exhibit, but I miss the underwater viewing.

Tomistoma are False Gharials - Tomistoma schlegeli. Tomistoma is sometimes used as a common name to avoid confusion with 'proper' Gharials (Gavialis gangeticus).

EDIT: Where I saw the Gharials was definitely at Tiger River rather than Reptile Mesa, so I guess this may well have been the exhibit.

Yeah, an astounding exhibit. That whole 'heart of the zoo' is really astounding imo.
