I really would not have expected a place like Reindeer Farm to hold a bunch of reptiles! Is this the only publicly opened zoological facility in Alaska to permanently house reptiles in their collection?
@SusScrofa yes I believe so. The Anchorage Museum’s imaginarium once held Alligators and Snapping Turtles, but I believe they are gone. The Alaska Zoo had a couple Box Turtles in their infirmary (which could be somewhat viewed from the enclosure window), but they definitely were not optimally exhibited. The Reindeer Farm added this feature last year. The animals within are pretty much pet store reptiles (some listed as rescues…I know of one reptile rescue operation in Anchorage), but the young lady in charge of the exhibit was very enthusiastic about her charges, knowledgeable of them, and committed to their care. I imagine that the Farm may have added this exhibit (aside from having a herptophile on staff), because every August, Palmer hosts the Alaska State Fair; and the Alaska State Fair’s most popular exhibit is the Brad’s World of Reptiles traveling Herp Zoo.
