These pictures from the 1960s are fun to look at - thanks for posting. It is like time travel.
I have to wonder what the guys in the lab coats are thinking:
"We are waiting for the lab results to confirm our hypothesis of what this organism is. Initial data suggests that it may be an elephant, but it may also be a least weasel."
Thanks Bubbles. I'm afraid I don't know what Btw means! I once sent a copy of this photo to Clinton Keeling saying it was Dumbo, but he said it was too small a calf to be the same specimen as in 1961. Unfortunately I don't own a copy of "Zoo Lady", but I think Frances/Nora Hick said Dumbo was sold to a circus after about a year or so - have you got a copy of the book?

I do indeed have a copy of the book. It says Dumbo was sold to a Circus as she had become 'stroppy' and was out-growing her living quarters. However, the reality was that Pen was offered £1,000 for her.
Yes, thank-you David, and that's all right Bubbles! I have read the book as you will have gathered, but it was a library copy. I was told by a long-serving keeper that Mrs Hick had forgotten some of her facts, and Clin Keeling disputed her account of the first animals to arrive.
Could it have been me, or was it longer ago? I did post something about it when I joined your website. I know where most of my correspondence with Clin Keeling is, but not the letter from 1996 with this information.
