Asiatic Softshell Turtle (Amyda cartilaginea)

One of the giant Amyda cartilaginea that reside in the large pond within the Treetops Trail vicinity.

This species of softshell is native to Singapore, alongside the less common Malayan forest softshell (Dogania subplana).

I realised that I was mistaken in my initial identification of this turtle.

It turns out that the zoo might actually have a small colony of fully grown Bostami softshells (Nilssonia nigricans) from South Asia, with the individual pictured being one of them.

This information was initially related to me by a former keeper and close friend, and then supported by the former Spanish reptile curator.
